The Working Poet Radio Show (WPRS) is a podcast and live interview series dedicated to the working lives of creative people, and at the 2016 Miami Book Fair, WPRS put on a show with some of the most creative people who have ever worked in comics, inlcuding Art Spiegelman, Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Maus and Si Lewen’s Parade: An Artist’s Odyssey, Trina Robbins, editor of The Complete Wimmen’s Comix anthology, and Gene Luen Yang, 2016 National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature and author of Secret Coders: Paths & Portals and American Born Chinese.
In the latest episode and video, Host Joseph Lapin talked with Gene Luen Yang on what it meant to be an outsider and how that influenced his work; he talked with Trina Robbins on how she overcame the male-dominated world of comics; and he talked with Art Spiegelman on the current political climate and the life of Si Lewen. He also discussed the creative journey and how each guest found a way to build a life around their creative impulse.
Many thanks to the Miami Book Fair, Marci Calabretta Cancio-Bello, producer and author of the new poetry book Hour of the Ox, and Guillermo Cancio-Bello. Next show is in April, 2017. Stay tuned for an announcement.
